Welcome!
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to ICTTP8!
We are very happy to host the first ICTTP conference organized in Latin America!
Brazil is the largest country in Latin America, with more than 250 million inhabitants. The country is the strongest economy in the region and has a big diversity in culture, climate and environment. Curitiba, home of the ICTTP 8, is located in Paraná, a state in the South Region of Brazil, which is the most European region, and where Iguazu Falls are located.
Founded in 1693, from a small traveler village, Curitiba became an important commercial stop, later becoming, in 1853, the capital of the newly emancipated Province of Paraná. Known for its large streets, it maintained a rhythm of urban growth, and it welcomed diverse European immigrants, mostly Germans, Poles, Ukrainians and Italians, which during the 19th century pushed the city’s cultural diversity, and today, this is well shown by its architecture.
Curitiba is the biggest city of Paraná, with 1.773.718 inhabitants, Human Development Index 0.82 and a good education system. Curitiba is located 850 meters above sea level, there is no snow, but it can be cold in winter. It became internationally known for its balance between urban growth and green politics, as well as advances in public transport, mainly buses, in the 70s. About conferences, 56% of tourism in the city corresponds to congresses and technical-scientific events.
The Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) was founded in 1912, and it is considered the oldest institution with the university title to be created in Brazil, and it is the 7th best university of Brazil. Nowadays, the university has 13 Campi around the city, and 5 more in different cities of Paraná, with around 43.084 undergraduate and graduate students.
There are serious traffic problems in this region of the world (Latin American countries). ICTTP 8 could be an opportunity to sensibilize other psychologists to the contributions that psychology could offer to traffic safety. Discuss traffic and transportation psychology in the light of the Sustainable Development Goals and the serious problem of climate change will be the backdrop of ICTTP 8.
Welcome to ICTTP 8! Welcome to Curitiba!
