This building today is known as the historical building of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). It dates back 1912, and UFPR is considered the oldest institution with the university title to be created in Brazil.

Araucaria angustifolia, a tree symbol of the state of Paraná, and in ICTTP 8 conference logo, is popularly known as Paraná Pine or Brazilian Pine, and can reach 50 meters in height.
